I was asked by Small Craft Advisor editor Josh Colvin as to whether I would be interested in answering some questions for their new Seasoned Sailor Series. I said I would be flattered to, and then I realized he wasn’t talking about cumin, curry, or coriander. I hardly feel seasoned, but I answered the questions anyway and had fun doing it. It’s that time of year to relax in the sun. Kim Dreher has the right kind of idea. A hammock in the sun on a boat. What could be better? That’s the subject of this installment of The Resourceful Sailor published on Small Craft Advisor on April 27, 2026. Thank you to them. Click HERE to be directed to the article.
Monica, the editor, ‘Lectronic Latitude, and Latitude 38 are so cool! They published a new Resourceful Sailor installment on April 20, 2026. If you find yourself preparing for a cruise and the hundred-dollar bills are flowing, it’s great when you can make something instead of buying it. Especially when it seems like it costs more than it ought to. A sliding pot on a bouncing stove, on a rolly boat, ‘esta no… Read More
Small Craft Advisory has done it again! Thank you so much. This installment of The Resourceful Sailor is about lowering the mast on Sampaguita, a Pacific Seacraft Flicka 20. I used a technique outlined by Bruce Bingham, the designer of the Flicka 20, in The Sailor’s Sketchbook. Click HERE to be directed to the article.

Welcome to 2026, and The Resourceful Sailor sails on. Thanks to Monica, Latitude 38, and ‘Lectronic Latitude for publishing a new installment on January 23, 2026. It’s about an emergency portable anchor light I made for Sampaguita, just in case. And how that just in case was not the one expected. Click HERE to be directed to the article. Port Townsend Rigging helped Sampaguita, and I refit her mast. They came up with this elegant solution to replace the tips on the mast’s spreaders and allowed me the facilities and coaching to finish them. I am very grateful for that. And thanks to Small Craft Advisor and Josh Colvin for republishing this installment. Click HERE to be directed to the article.
Thanks again to Josh and Small Craft Advisor for keeping The Resourceful Sailor alive. This edition reviews how racing on a small foredeck with no lifelines helped me gain more confidence and experience in single-handing Sampaguita on the ocean. Thanks for stopping by and checking it out. CLICK HERE to be routed to the article. Thanks again.
